Women Going ‘Trad’ Is Backlash Against the Feminist Movement

Women becoming “trad” is a backlash against the feminist movement, says women’s life and relationship coach Suzanne Benkershawshe told Breitbart News while attending the Turning Point USA Young Women’s Leadership Summit.

Vencker spoke about fighting the current culture that expects women to give up motherhood to pursue a career, which she disagrees with and attributes the impetus to the feminist movement.

“I think it’s been a long, steady journey since feminists introduced the concept of prioritizing career over motherhood a long time ago,” Vencker explained, noting that “it’s taken on a different look in the last 20 years, especially with social media and the speed of technology.”

“And we live in a time when we are so focused on ourselves. This is a very individualistic society, and the concept of sacrifice, really putting your own needs on the back burner for someone else, especially your children, is almost considered outdated. But actually, it’s human, it’s normal, it’s good, and it shouldn’t change with the times. You know, it’s static. The needs of children are the same today as they were 50 years ago. That’s never going to change. It’s up to us to meet those needs when we decide to have a family,” she said.

When asked whether the new trend towards traditional or “trad” ways of living – growing one’s own food, making one’s own bread, staying at home with the kids – was a backlash against what modern feminism has taught, Vencker said it was.

“Yeah, I think so. … I think it’s great. I think it’s a great choice. I think homeschooling is great. If you want to live off the land, [I] “I completely agree, but I think it’s an extreme reaction. I think it’s normal to have extreme reactions. The pendulum, you know, moves from one side to the other, and eventually hopefully we’ll get back to that middle point where there’s room for independent living, but it has to be child-centered. You don’t have to be completely self-sufficient and homeschool, which is great, but it’s not the only option and it’s not going to be an option for most women,” she added.
