Austin Reeves seems to really enjoy JJ Redick’s TV and podcast work and has been very complimentary about the new Lakers head coach.
“I got to know JJ a little bit better when I was on his podcast midway through the year, and as we all know, I think he’s a basketball genius,” Reeves told CBS affiliate THV11 on Saturday in his hometown of Arkansas. “I think he’ll be a good coach and I can’t wait to work with him.”
“He actually texted me [Friday] And I wanted to answer the phone. So I can’t wait to put our heads together and have a great year.”
Reeves was a guest. In December, he appeared on Reddick’s “Old Man and Three” show.
The 39-year-old Redick agreed to a four-year contract on Thursday to replace Darvin Ham as the Lakers’ head coach.
The Lakers won the play-in tournament but lost 47-35 to the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.

Redick, a former ESPN/ABC analyst, was hired after University of Connecticut coach Dan Hurley turned down a six-year, $70 million contract with the Lakers to play in the NBA.
Reeves appeared in all 82 games (57 starts) for the Lakers last season, averaging 15.9 points and 5.5 assists per game.
