A few months ago, Apple rejected MetaPlatform’s proposal to integrate the social networking company’s AI chatbot into the iPhone. Bloomberg News reported. A person familiar with the matter said this on Monday.
The two companies reportedly have not discussed an AI collaboration around Meta’s Llama chatbot, only having brief discussions in March.
Talks about a potential partnership never reached a formal stage, and Apple didn’t actively plan to integrate Llama into the iPhone because it didn’t believe Instagram’s owner Meta’s privacy practices were strict enough, according to Bloomberg News.
The preliminary talks reportedly came at a time when Apple was in the early stages of negotiating a deal to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Alphabet’s Gemini in its products.
Apple unveiled its long-awaited AI strategy at its annual developers conference in early June, bringing OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT to its devices and integrating new “Apple Intelligence” technologies across its suite of apps, including its virtual assistant Siri.
Apple and Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
The Wall Street Journal first reported news of the talks between the two companies on Sunday.
