It’s ‘Shocking’ How ‘Triggering the Truth Is to CNN’

“It’s shocking how provocative the truth is for CNN,” Caroline Leavitt, national spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, said Monday after CNN abruptly turned off his microphone midway through the interview.

CNN’s Casey Hunt couldn’t stand how easily Leavitt brought up Jake Tapper’s long history of criticizing former President Donald Trump.

This was a key point of conversation ahead of the presidential debate, as Tapper will co-host the network’s first presidential debate on Thursday.

In response to CNN’s behavior, Leavitt said, “CNN’s decision to cut off my microphone for bringing up the debate moderator’s history of anti-Trump lies only proves our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly in Thursday’s debate.”

She also spoke with Benny Johnson shortly after CNN interrupted her, saying she “still can’t believe this is happening.”

“It’s really shocking how inflammatory the truth is for CNN,” she began, explaining that she was simply pointing out Trump’s courage in agreeing to the debate under unfavorable circumstances.

“All I was doing was pointing out the fact that President Trump had the audacity to take on a three-on-one fight with a clearly hostile network,” she explained.

“Let’s not act like CNN is still the most trusted name in news. It’s not. I’ve pointed out that Jake Tapper himself has said this in the past,” she continued, noting the irony that Tapper makes controversial statements on air but is not allowed to repeat them.

“He’s allowed to say it on air, but apparently I’m not allowed to repeat it because I’m the moderator of Thursday night’s debate, even though it’s completely relevant. … It’s shocking that they not only cut off my microphone, but removed me from the entire show,” she continued, adding, “And as you can see, by the end of that clip, I had turned around and was ready to talk about the issues and talk about our strategy for Thursday night.”

“But she couldn’t live with it and they couldn’t live with the truth, so that’s what it came down to,” Leavitt added.

Hunt later claimed he interrupted Leavitt because he was disrespectful of his colleague, Jake Tapper.

“If you’re going to be on my show, please respect my colleagues. Period,” Hunt said. “As my record clearly shows, it doesn’t matter to me what side you’re on.”

“The debate moderator cut off my microphone after I brought up my history of anti-Trump lies, proving our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly on Thursday,” Leavitt fired back.

“But he’s going to take this three-on-one battle to deliver a winning message to the American people, and he’s going to win,” she added.
