Chiefs Cut Isaiah Buggs After Multiple Offseason Arrests

In a surprise to no one, the Kansas City Chiefs waived defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs after his second arrest this offseason.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news that Buggs had been released by the team.

“Isaiah Buggs’ bond was revoked following his recent arrest and he is currently in jail with multiple ongoing cases,” Pelissero wrote. “There are bigger issues to worry about than football and Kansas City is moving forward.”

Buggs, 27, was recently arrested on charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home with a tire iron and dragged her down the stairs. Just weeks prior, he was arrested on animal cruelty charges after he allegedly left two caged dogs unattended on his Tuscaloosa property.

“The 27-year-old Buggs was selected by the Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 draft and also played for the Raiders and Lions. He spent the end of last season on the Chiefs’ practice squad and signed a reserve/futures contract after the season,” Pro Football Talk reported. Reports“He’s a free agent now and, given his pending NFL suspension and possible placement on the commissioner’s exempt list, it’s unlikely any team will sign him anytime soon.”

If the Chiefs’ swift and decisive response to the Buggs situation seems inconsistent, even hypocritical, with how the team has handled the ongoing issues surrounding star wide receiver Ruchy Rice and his offseason troubles, that’s because it is.
