Ahead of the November presidential election, Gen Z voters are defecting from the Democratic Party in large numbers, refusing to vote for President Biden as Trump gains ground among a historically Democratic electorate.

Former Democrats Becky Oliveira and Grace Guenzel appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday to explain why they abandoned the Democratic Party and its progressive values, despite growing up in left-wing households.

“I grew up in Queens, New York, which is a very politically diverse neighborhood, more than people think,” Oliveira told Lawrence Jones on Tuesday. “I grew up in a social media culture that was very dominated by, for lack of a better word, left-wing propaganda pushed through algorithms, and I really embraced it and loved it. I was very much invested in it, but then I came out of it and realized that a lot of what I believed was very emotional and not based in logic or fact.”

“So once I started realizing that, it all really came to a head around 2020 when I started seeing how Democratic policies were playing out in my city,” she continued, “Cashless bail, the riots after George Floyd’s murder, Madison Avenue being completely destroyed by a mob of rioters, etc.”

According to a Fox News poll, Trump has gained support among Gen Z, up 10 percentage points since 2020, while Biden has lost 7 percentage points. Biden still leads Trump among younger voters by 8 percentage points, according to the same poll.

Oliveira, who was once a “left-wing radical feminist” and was distraught when former President Trump won his first term, now says she can’t imagine voting for anyone else.

“I’m going to vote for Donald Trump in November because we can’t have four more years of this,” Oliveira said. “This country is totally destroyed and our future is being destroyed.”

Guenzel grew up in a progressive household but has since moved away from his parents’ political stance and now considers himself a Republican.

“For me, it was just about looking at nuance and doing my own research,” Guenzel said. “I was surrounded by Democrats and I was in that culture, so it was just normal for me. But once I started doing the research and understanding the nuances, I think it was because I was looking at things very one-sidedly. But once I got out of that cycle and stopped surrounding myself with only certain types of people, I think it pulled me out of the hole I was in and moved more to the right.”

Though she hasn’t yet decided who she’ll vote for in November, she made it clear that she will not support Biden for a second term.

“For my part, I’m determined not to vote for Joe Biden because I know we can’t have another four years of open borders or anything like that,” she said.
