Ezra Levant is many things: lawyer, journalist, author, political activist and founder of Rebel News, which he says is “a lot like Blaze News in some ways.” Glenn Beck.
He is also a target of the authoritarian Canadian government.
Levant and his Rebel News team have been “outspoken” when it comes to campaigning against free speech (and freedom in general) in Canada, which makes him an enemy of the state.
“The Canadian government [Levant and his team] “Censorship has been going on for a long time,” Glenn said, adding that Levant “now finds himself in a position where he has to contend with a censorship bill that Canada passed last year.”
“It looks like he may be facing prison time for ‘hate speech,'” which is just a catch-all term for things the government doesn’t want people to say.
“I live in Toronto, Canada, where there are pro-Hamas encampments,” Levant told Glenn. “Masked thugs march through the city every week, attacking synagogues and residential areas. A few weeks ago there was a shooting at a Jewish school. It’s a wave of anti-Semitic crime.”
However, Rebel News [its] Jumbotron trucks drove around the city, showing scenes of Hamas thugs threatening to kill people and blocking streets downtown. [and] Mass prayers were held across the city, and the police chief announced on Twitter that an investigation was underway. [the team] “For a hate crime.”

“The fact that we showed those things [meant] We were committing hate crimes, and [the police chief] “He announced the investigation in advance and declared it an Islamophobic hate crime,” Levant explains.
“if [he and his team are] If convicted…he faces a prison sentence of two years under this provision of the Criminal Code of Canada.”
“The day after the investigation was announced, I got in my truck and parked it right outside the police chief’s headquarters,” Levant recalled, “and walked into Toronto Police Department headquarters and said, ‘I’m here to see the chief.'”
Naturally, “he didn’t come down and no one would come down to get me off, so I ended up leaving.”
But despite the looming threat, Levant and Rebel News are refusing to cower in fear.
“We’ve been driving trucks with the same images on them for days, and we don’t know what’s going to happen next,” he said.
