Apparently three beers is just the right amount for this golfer.
Golf Galaxy employee Nick Bienz downed a few cold beers before surviving a playoff qualifier and making it into this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The 27-year-old Bienz drilled a 12-foot birdie on the 18th hole at Orchards Golf Club in Michigan to shoot 7-under 65, putting him tied with four other golfers hoping to make the PGA Tour.
A somewhat shaky but somewhat excited Bienvenz made it through an eight-hole playoff to qualify for his first PGA Tour-sanctioned event.
“I definitely need to call my boss and take the day off tomorrow,” Bienz told Golfweek after his round. “I was supposed to be in at 7:30 (Tuesday) morning, but I don’t think I’ll make it.”
Bienz will be one of 156 golfers playing for $9.2 million in prize money at the Detroit Golf Club on Thursday.
He will tee off at 2:22 p.m. ET in the final group of the day, along with Rafael Campos and Anders Albertsson.
“This is definitely the craziest day of my life,” Bienz wrote to X. “Thank you all so much. Let’s have an amazing week!”
Bienves appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday ahead of the big weekend in Detroit.
“Everyone needs swing oil,” Bienz says. “It’s about finding the right balance. Mine happens to be three.”
