GSK shares fell more than 1% in morning trading after the CDC suspended its recommendation for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccinations for adults under 60. The move followed a 3% drop the previous day, putting GSK on track for a third straight day of declines.

A range of economic data is due to be released on Thursday, including weekly jobless claims, durable goods orders and estimated home sales. Here’s what economists are predicting ahead of the release of those data.

  • Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expect jobless claims to rise by 240,000 for the week ending June 22, up slightly from 238,000 the previous week.
  • Durable goods orders, which measure new orders to U.S. makers of machinery, equipment and other goods that last for a long time, are expected to fall 0.6% in May after increasing 0.6% the previous month, according to Dow Jones consensus estimates.
  • Pending home sales, a gauge of housing contract activity, are expected to rise 1% in May by economists surveyed by Dow Jones, up from a 7.7% decline in April.

Wheat futures hit two-month low, on track for worst month in two years

September wheat futures fell to $5.5625 per bushel (60 pounds) on Wednesday, the lowest since April 19. That brings this month’s decline to 17.6%, putting it on track to be the worst month since June 2022.

Wheat futures are down 11% so far in 2024.

Stock market moves significantly in after-hours trading

The stocks that saw the biggest moves in long-term trading are:

  • Micron — Shares fell 7% after the chipmaker issued a current-quarter revenue outlook of $7.6 billion, matching LSEG’s consensus estimate. The company otherwise beat expectations on third-quarter sales and profits.
  • Levi Strauss & Co. — Despite denim being all the rage among consumers, the jeans maker’s shares fell 12% after Levi Strauss & Co. reported disappointing quarterly earnings.
  • AeroVironment — Shares fell 6% even though the unmanned aerial vehicle maker reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and revenue. AeroVironment reported adjusted earnings of 43 cents a share, beating the FactSet consensus estimate of 22 cents per share. Revenue of $197 million also beat expectations of $188.5 million.

S&P 500 futures open slightly lower

U.S. S&P 500 futures opened slightly lower Wednesday night.

S&P 500 futures fell 0.19%, while Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.32%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 73 points, or 0.18%.
