Trump ‘Expected Winner’ of Debate; Most Say Event Won’t Change Voting Intent

Former President Donald Trump is the “predicted winner” of Thursday night’s debate between him and President Joe Biden, but most people say the outcome won’t change their voting intentions, according to the latest Economist/YouGov weekly survey.

The majority of respondents (56%) Said Many said they planned to watch the debate on CNN, and many also believed Trump would beat Biden by 10 points.

Forty percent said they thought Trump would win or do better in the debate, while 30% said the same about Biden, but one in three remained unsure.

Republicans continue to have more confidence in Trump than Democrats do in Biden, with 81% of Republicans expecting Trump to win, while 67% of Democrats do the same for Biden. Just under half of independents, 49%, said they didn’t know, but were more likely to expect Trump to win by 17 points than Biden.

Either way, most respondents acknowledged that the Trump-Biden debate is unlikely to change their minds about who they’ll vote for in November.

64% said they thought the debate was “not at all likely” to change their mind, while 14% said it was “not very likely.”

Republicans were the least shaken by the debate’s outcome, with 88% saying the debate was “not at all” or “not very likely” to change their vote, along with 77% of Democrats and 75% of independents.

The survey was conducted among 1,599 adult Americans from June 23-25, 2024. This is in line with a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Policy Research that showed most Americans plan to watch the debate.

Earlier this week, Trump suggested that Biden and Trump be drug tested before the debate, but the Biden campaign roundly rejected the idea, despite polls showing 70% of Americans would not be drug tested. I want to I’d love to see both Biden and Trump do that.

This is the White House Reject Will Biden confirm or deny that he took performance-enhancing drugs before the debate? Will Trump? Predicted During the campaign, it was expected that Biden would be “lifted” for Thursday’s big event after receiving a “shot in the ass.”
