Baylor Scott and White, Blue Cross Blue Shield extend contracts – WFAA.com

RICHARDSON, Texas — Baylor Scott, White Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas have come to an agreement on a three-month contract extension after some feared the deal would be terminated.

The new extension expires on October 1 of this year, giving the two sides additional time to work out a longer-term agreement.

“Baylor Scott & White and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas have a shared commitment to the health and well-being of the patients and members we serve,” the companies said in a joint statement.

Baylor Scott & White is the state’s largest not-for-profit health system with 51 hospitals. Blue Cross Blue Shield is the state’s largest insurer with approximately 25% of the market share. The next largest insurer, UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company, has approximately 10% of the market share. Texas Department of Insurance.

Specifically, the negotiations have revolved around a discrepancy between the increased post-pandemic reimbursement rates that Baylor Scott & White is demanding and the amount that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas is willing to agree to.
