U.S. Olympic Swimmer Michael Brinegar Banned Four Years for Doping

U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Brinegar has been banned for four years for blood doping.

United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) Reports The swimmer had abnormal test results between July and September 2022, according to Yahoo Sports.

The agency added that Brinegar’s “abnormal blood values” were “resulting from blood doping.”

The swimmer disputed the allegations and was even exonerated by an independent arbitrator, but USADA appealed the arbitrator’s decision. Ultimately, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in USADA’s favor and imposed the suspension.

Brinegar denies any wrongdoing.

“As an Olympian and the son of an Olympic swimmer, who played on the U.S. women’s team against a systematically doping East German team, cheating is a betrayal of everything I’ve been taught and everything I believe in,” Brinegar said in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“I am deeply disappointed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision and USADA’s completely unfounded accusations.”

Vinnegar competed in the 800m and 1,500m at the Tokyo Olympics but is currently ineligible for final selection for the U.S. Olympic team for Paris 2024.
