During MSNBC’s post-debate coverage of Thursday’s presidential debate, the network’s host Joy Reid praised President Joe Biden’s performance, sparking panic among Democrats.
Reade argued that Biden’s job was to assuage Democrats’ fears, but Biden has done the opposite.
“[I]”I was on the phone throughout the debate with people from the Obama campaign, Democrats, political activists, campaigners,” she said. “My phone was ringing off and on throughout the debate. And the reaction was something of a panic. The people I was texting with were very concerned that President Biden looked very weak, very weak. And I’ll repeat what I said earlier: President Biden had a job tonight, a primary job. Yes, it was to call out Donald Trump for his criminal acts and so forth. But he had to calm his own party. He had to calm the Democratic Party.”
“Democrats always say Democrats are bedwetting, they’re always panicking. Yes, Democrats are always panicking. Democrats are always scared, they always think they’re going to lose. Democrats are so pessimistic. They’re nervous. But Joe Biden’s job tonight was to reassure them. His job was to calm the party and make them feel like, yes, I can do this, I have four more years, I have the ability and the stamina and the strength to do four more years. He didn’t do that. He did the opposite. He made them panic even more. The people who were texting me were panicking even more. They actually expected it to be better, and now they’re getting to that, if not full-blown panic.”
