Former President Trump and President Biden accused each other of lying during the first 2024 presidential debate on Thursday.
The exchange came after Biden accused Trump of wanting to cut benefits Americans receive from Social Security and Medicare, a charge Trump denies.
“I’ve dealt with politicians my whole life. I’ve been in this position for the last eight years. I’ve never seen anybody lie like this guy does,” Trump said, adding, “Everything he does is a lie.”
The presumptive Republican nominee denied that Biden had opened the debate by alleging that Trump had called veterans who died in combat “losers” and “idiots.” Trump has previously denied the comments, but his former chief of staff, John Kelly, said Trump had made them.
“This story he’s made up about losers and idiots is a complete lie. … It’s a disgrace,” Trump said Thursday, also accusing Biden of “destroying” Social Security.
Biden reiterated the reports about Trump’s comments and claimed Kelly was fired for confirming Trump’s comments.
“The general was fired for admitting that he said that. He was the one supporting Trump when he said that,” Biden said.
Trump has made a wide range of false statements during his presidency. The Washington Post reports that Trump Over 30,000 errors Or, he never made any misleading statements during his four years in office.
