Speaking on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” broadcast Friday, Biden campaign co-chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) acknowledged that he received “a lot” of panicked reactions from “longtime friends and supporters” about President Joe Biden’s performance in last night’s debate, but said, “We’ve seen this happen many times in several episodes and events in politics. This is not new. This is what Democrats do on nights when they’re off to a bit of a sluggish, slow start and President Biden is not his best self.”
After co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin said he’d received panicked calls from Democrats, Coons said, “I got some calls and emails last night too. Not from campaign officials or senators, but from concerned people. But a lot of long-time friends and supporters saying, Oh no, Oh no. We’ve seen that happen many times in political episodes and events. This is not new. It’s what Democrats do on nights when they’re feeling a little off, getting off to a slow start, not hitting their stride.”
“Joe Biden has a tremendous track record. There’s no denying the fact that he’s been an incredibly strong and effective president,” Coons added.
