A college basketball player who was in Washington Heights for the NBA draft was arrested early Saturday after a loaded gun was found in his car, police sources said.
According to authorities, just after 1:30 a.m., police found two black BMW X5s with tinted windows parked on the northwest corner of Nagel Avenue and West 204th Street.
Police sources said the vehicle was occupied by University of Arkansas Razorbacks graduate senior guard Jeremiah Davenport, 25, and another man, 24.
When police stopped the vehicle, they observed marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle, officers said.
Police questioned Davenport, who was unable to provide identification, and police said they saw a gun behind the passenger seat.
Both men were arrested, but the second man was released after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office dismissed charges against him, police sources said.
Police said Davenport was charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of an ammunition feeding device and window tinting.

He appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday wearing a deep orange sweater that read “Selfish Ways.”
His legal aid lawyer, Russell Novak, told Judge Marva Brown there were “serious search problems” in the case.
Davenport was released without bail.
Davenport, who has no criminal record, declined to comment as he left court.
The Razorbacks guard was previously arrested on a misdemeanor charge in September in connection with a speeding ticket after turning himself in to Fayetteville police, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
