DJ Diplo Sued, Accused of Distributing ‘Revenge Porn’

Grammy Award-winning DJ and music producer Diplo is being sued by an anonymous woman for distributing “revenge porn” over a five-year period.

Jane Doe filed a lawsuit in California federal court on Thursday accusing Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, of distributing sexually explicit images of her and engaging in “gender violence.” Obtained From USA Today.

Known as “revenge porn”, the images refer to the distribution of sexually explicit photos or videos of someone without their consent and are sometimes shared by ex-partners seeking some kind of personal revenge after a breakup.

In the lawsuit, Doe alleges that he and Pentz engaged in a sexual relationship on the social media platform Snapchat from 2016 until October 2023, during which time Doe sent intimate images to Pentz.

Doe added that he gave Pentz permission to record the sex acts “on several occasions,” but never agreed to distributing the footage.

The plaintiff alleges in the lawsuit that her relationship with DJ ended in October 2023, one month before she learned that DJ had been disseminating photos and videos of their sexual adventures without her knowledge or consent.

According to the lawsuit, in November a third party told Doe he had obtained sexually explicit images of her, after which the plaintiff reported Pentz to the NYPD.

“Criminal charges of unlawful dissemination have been filed against a suspect named Thomas Pentz and are currently under investigation by NYPD detectives,” an NYPD spokesperson told USA Today.

Meanwhile, Pentz’s lawyers claim the DJ is being “targeted” by “untrustworthy individuals.”

His lawyer, Hollywood attorney Brian Friedman, told USA Today:

In every case where allegations of wrongdoing were made against Wes, the outcome was either a summary dismissal of the bogus lawsuit accompanied by an apology, a court order for over $1.2 million in damages against Wes, or a slow end to obvious extortion attempts that never produced any results.

Notably, Pentz, who is known for collaborating with stars such as Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Tiesto and Skrillex, was also sued by another woman in 2021, who claimed the DJ forced her to perform oral sex on him, but the suit was later dropped.

“Wes has repeatedly been targeted by unreliable individuals and their unscrupulous lawyers who have invented lies in pursuit of money that has not been substantiated,” Friedman said. “This case is similar to many others, and there is no reason to believe it will end any differently than any other.”
