Wes Moore says he will not pursue Democratic nomination if Biden steps down

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (Democrat) has stated that he will not seek the Democratic nomination if President Biden withdraws from the election, emphasizing that Biden will remain in the presidential election.

Asked if he would seek the nomination, Moore said on CBS’ “Face the Nation”: “I’m not going to do that, and Joe Biden is not going to withdraw from this race, nor should he. He’s been a great partner.”

Moore, 45, has been a top surrogate for Biden’s reelection campaign and said Biden was worthy of being selected as the nominee and winning the support of party members despite his weak performance in the debates.

Biden’s debate performance, in which he appeared to stumble and make gaffes at times, sparked widespread concern within the Democratic Party and led many, including the New York Times editorial board, to call for him to drop out of the race.

CBS’ Margaret Brennan then asked Trump if he was “confident that Joe Biden is the only Democrat in America who can beat Donald Trump?”

“Joe Biden is our candidate. Joe Biden is our leader. And Joe Biden has earned and deserves the trust and respect and frankly the partnership that we have to offer him now. So I’ll be in Chicago, I’ll probably be supporting the president in Chicago. I’ll be a member to make sure he gets re-elected. So yeah, I think President Biden has earned that respect,” Moore replied.

Asked why Biden didn’t have a strong performance in the debate, Moore said it was a “tough night” for Biden.

“I think the president has had a difficult night, just like every single one of us,” he said.
