Massachusetts ‘road rage’ arrest: Hingham suspect accused of swinging ‘police baton’ at driver

Police in Massachusetts have arrested a suspect who hit another driver with a “telescopic baton” during an alleged road rage incident.

Gregory Knowles, 51, faces multiple charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and witness intimidation following the incident that allegedly happened late last Friday in the Boston suburb of Cohasset.

“The victim, a 34-year-old South Boston resident, called 911 to report that he and the driver of a 2006 Jeep had been involved in a road rage incident while driving north on Route 3A,” Cohasset police said in a statement.

“The victim alleges that the jeep driver stopped in front of him, got out of the jeep while brandishing a telescoping baton, struck him in the head and body, and then choked him before fleeing the scene,” the statement continued. “The victim noted down the license plate number of the jeep as it sped away.”

Cohasset police later identified the suspect as Knowles, of Hingham.

“Officers arrested the man and towed the Jeep to Cohasset Police Headquarters where they obtained a search warrant for the Jeep and recovered a retractable metal baton located inside the vehicle,” police said in a statement.

Knowles is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.

According to the Cohasset Police Department, “the victim in this incident sustained visible injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.”
