Stephen K. Bannon, a former adviser to President Donald Trump, was held in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a select committee subpoena on Jan. 6 and reported to federal prison on Monday to begin serving a four-month sentence.

Before his four-month sentence began, Bannon made his final War Room Speaking from outside the federal prison during his incarceration, he said he was a “political prisoner.”
“I am a political prisoner of Nancy Pelosi. I am a political prisoner of Merrick Garland. I am a political prisoner of Joe Biden and the corrupt Biden regime,” Bannon said. A group that lies about the state of the president of the United States, including the national security elements, they lied about the 2020 election. They lied about COVID, they lied about everything they’ve done to the American people, and they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop unless we stop them.”

Bannon was sent to a federal prison in Connecticut following the Supreme Court ruling. was denied He requested to remain out of prison pending the outcome of his appeal.
On July 22, 2022, the jury was in Convicted Bannon was charged with contempt of Congress. In October, he was sentenced to four months in prison on two counts of contempt for failing to comply with subpoenas from the Democratic-led Select Committee on January 6th, which was established to investigate the January 6, 2021, riots at the Capitol.
The sentence was put on hold as Bannon appealed, and a federal appeals court upheld Bannon’s conviction in May 2024.
Before being hired as CEO of the Trump campaign in 2016, Bannon served as executive chairman of Breitbart News. Bannon then joined the Trump administration as chief strategist, leaving the post in August 2017 but returning to Breitbart News until his retirement in early 2018.
Bannon is the second Trump administration official to serve a four-month prison sentence. Former White House adviser Peter Navarro was held in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a Jan. 6 subpoena and will begin serving his four-month sentence in March 2024.
