The three, two of whom are Jewish, claim they were attacked at a Palestinian resistance event in Asheville, North Carolina, on June 29.
Three Asheville residents, David Moritz, Monica Buckley and Bob Campbell, Said WPDE participated in an event called “Strategic Lessons from the Palestinian Resistance” at the West Asheville Library, with an estimated 60-80 people in attendance.
“Moritz and Buckley are Jewish, but said they wanted to attend to find out what was being taught in their community,” the outlet noted. “Buckley, who livestreamed the session, said he did so out of concern for his own safety.”
The three reportedly live-streamed the talk for about 30 minutes before someone noticed. When the speaker announced that he was live-streaming, the three were asked if they were doing it to promote the talk. A few minutes later, someone slapped Buckley’s phone out of his hand.
“We just thought it would be safer to livestream what was going on,” Buckley said.
“I was just sitting there recording the people around us and then a woman grabbed her phone and started running for the door,” she added.
Buckley said violence erupted when he tried to get his phone back.
“I went at her to get my phone back and dozens of people swarmed me and attacked me, then Bob and David came to help and they swarmed them too,” Buckley said. “They punched me, they punched me, they hit me on the wrists, they stomped on my ankles. Someone choked me with something.”
Breitbart News reported this week that 49 percent of Americans believe anti-Semitism is a serious problem in the United States.
“A recent Gallup poll found that 49 percent of Americans believe anti-Semitism is a ‘very serious problem’ in the United States,” the paper reported. “The poll, released on Monday, Said 32% of respondents believe it is “somewhat of a problem,” while 10% believe it is “not really a problem.”
