A woman took to a Reddit page called “AITA” (Am I the a–hole) to share some “weird” personal drama between her family members after a fun eating challenge turned out to be not so fun after all.
The woman posted a question, asking others, “Was I wrong to blame my father-in-law when he chose my mother-in-law?” [mother-in-law] As the winner of a competition with my kids?”
The woman, known by the username “ScaleFlat338,” said in a post on Thursday that her parents-in-law had organized a “food decorating contest for their grandkids, namely my two daughters.” [ages] Ages 10 and 12, and my nieces, [ages] 12 and 13.

She said the prize was a gift card, but her father-in-law “picked my mother-in-law as the winner.”
“I could see that my daughters were upset,” the woman added. [Then] “My father-in-law called my daughter unsportsmanlike.”

So, the woman continued, “I called my stepdad in and told him it was weird that he would choose a grown woman over his kids, and he actually tried to do just that.”
“It was all just for fun, just messing around,” his father-in-law said.
His answer was that it was all “just for fun, being silly.”
In the end, her mother-in-law “felt apologetic and said she could share the gift cards with the children,” the report said.

Now, the Reddit poster’s husband believes that “I caused a fuss for no reason” and that the award should go to his mother-in-law.
So the woman who shared her experience wondered if she had done anything wrong.
Within hours, the post had garnered more than 3,000 reactions and over 700 comments.
Reddit user accused of pampering young son by asking for invitations to girls-only events
In the top comment, which has received more than 8,000 upvotes so far, a poster wrote: “This is the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard. Why would a grown woman need to hit pre-teen kids?”
The commenter added, “Didn’t your mother-in-law specifically say, ‘I’m not in the contest’? Didn’t your father-in-law say, ‘This is for kids’?”

“So yes, girls should learn to accept defeat with grace, but I also think they should be empowered to call out obvious lies — like ‘Man wins a prize for his adult wife in a fun children’s contest.'”
“Maybe you should keep an eye out for any strange occurrences in the future.”
The same commenter added, “Are your husband’s family relationships really that badly messed up? This is so bizarrely different from a normal relationship between grandparents and children that I suspect it’s just the tip of a very toxic iceberg.”

A warning was then given to the woman who told her family story.
“If your husband was raised thinking this was normal and truly believes it’s ‘natural’ for his mother to win cookie-decorating contests with her teenage grandchildren, then you might want to be wary of any odd behavior going forward.”

“I’m all for teaching kids the value of accepting defeat, but that competition was far from fair sportsmanship,” one respondent said. (iStock)
Another respondent summed it up this way: “So your father-in-law and mother-in-law hosted a fun contest for their grandkids, and one of the adults hosting the event decided to participate, and to their surprise, he was better than the kids. And your father-in-law tried to make a big show of how the adults were better at decorating cookies than the kids.”
The commenter continued: “Maybe it was just some weird lesson the stepmother/stepfather wanted to teach their kids?”

The person added: “I’m all for teaching kids the value of accepting defeat gracefully, but that contest was the furthest thing from fair sportsmanship. Instead, you’ve turned it into a lesson in teaching kids to call out stupid things when they see them.”
The same person pointed out that “there’s a reason why adults aren’t allowed to participate in competitions aimed at children.”

Another person, who shared their opinion online about the show, said: “They should have had a junior division. Now they’ve basically just bought themselves presents, which is fine, but maybe they should stop doing it when they have guests over.”
