Hurricane Beryl on track to hit southern Texas after deadly Caribbean barrage

Hurricane Beryl is expected to hit South Texas on Monday morning with sustained winds of up to 85 mph, and forecasters warned local residents on Friday to “exercise caution” for severe weather.

The deadly storm, which has killed at least 10 people in the Caribbean over the past week, is forecast to make landfall near Corpus Christi as a Category 1 hurricane around 7 a.m. Monday, meteorologists said.

“People need to keep a close eye on it. There could be short-term changes and fluctuations in intensity,” Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Blood told The Post.

“We need to monitor it 100 percent.”

Brad warned that Texans should prepare for “worse impacts,” including heavy rain and possible flash flooding, in areas north of Port Lavaca starting Sunday night.

He advised residents to “have a plan” and be prepared to evacuate if the storm intensifies and local authorities issue evacuation orders.

Earlier this week, Beryl struck the southeastern Caribbean as a Category 4 hurricane, destroying buildings and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents.

The storm struck southern Jamaica on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain for more than 12 hours and leaving more than 500 people displaced.

As of Friday, the storm had killed at least 10 people. According to BBC News — hit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula Near the resort town of Tulum as a Category 2 hurricane.
