Former President Donald Trump released a statement Friday denying any ties to “Project 2025” after Democrats launched a commercial criticizing him for his conservative plan.
Project 2025 is a set of policies put together by the Heritage Foundation as a plan of action for Trump if he wins the election in 2024. Trump on Friday denied knowing about the plan and said he had no involvement in it.
“I don’t agree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are just ridiculous and awful.”
“I know nothing about Project 2025. I don’t know who is behind it,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“I don’t agree with some of the things they say and some of the things they say are totally ridiculous and awful,” he added. “I wish them the best of luck in whatever they do, but I have nothing to do with them.”
A spokesman for the project said: statement Friday.
“As we have said for over two years, Project 2025 does not represent any particular candidate or campaign,” the statement read.
“We are a coalition of over 110 conservative organizations making policy and personnel recommendations to the next conservative president,” the spokesperson added. “But it is ultimately up to the president to implement any recommendations, and we believe it will be President Trump. Instead of obsessing over Project 2025, the Biden team should address the 25th Amendment.”
“Project 2025 is not a game, it’s white Christian nationalism.”
Democrats have cited the plan to accuse President Trump of plotting to implement radical policies.
In November, New Jersey Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrill Jr. said Trump intended to “impose a Republican military dictatorship” by invoking the Insurrection Act to send in the military and silence political dissent.
“This is no exaggeration,” Pascrill argued, citing a Washington Post article.
Rob Bruey of the Heritage Foundation denied the accusations.
“Project 2025 has no plans related to the Insurrection Act or to target political opponents,” he said at the time.
Actor Mark Ruffalo Posts on Monday about the plan.
“Project 2025 is not a game, it’s white Christian nationalism,” he argued. “Trump is bringing it into all of our lives. Gone are abortion, LGBTQIA+ rights, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of education, racial and gender equality. Forced birth and forced religion. Trump’s American Taliban.”
The plan was also cited by MSNBC’s Joy Reid when she said it was important to vote for President Joe Biden even if he was “in a coma” after his disastrous debate performance.
“If Biden is in a coma, I’m voting for Biden in a coma,” she explained. “Yeah, Hitler, we’re keeping him out, we’re keeping Project 2025 out. That’s all I care about. Up and down the ballot, from the cheerleaders to the honkers, from the school board to the White House and everything in between.”
