The John Deere Classic is one of the staple events on the PGA Tour, having helped launch the careers of many players.
Have you ever wondered what the equivalent of a PGA Tour player’s equipment is? Why not continue the fun by comparing players’ and farm gear with the coolest tee markers around?
Twitter user “Tweeth Mitchell” also asked the same question, which sparked a collaboration between the six players and what John Deere gear they would wear.
Although it’s a niche topic, it’s fun to think about and compare.
Now that we’ve introduced the “Farm Team,” let’s discuss what equipment will suit the athletes in the John Deere Classic.
Frontier RC-20 Rotary Cutter: Denny McCarthy
The Frontier RC20 is known for taking down competitors with precision, much like sharpshooter Denny McCarthy. That precision makes McCarthy one of the favorites to win this week, so keep an eye on him as he takes aim at the flagstick at every opportunity.
T6 800 Combine: Sepp Straka
The T6 Combine is a sturdy machine with a wide body and plenty of power, just like 2023 John Deere Classic Champion Sepp Straka.
Straka has always performed well at TPC Deere Run and has plenty of opportunities to make birdies this week. Like a big machine, Straka can take a while to warm up, but once he does, he’ll likely post even lower scores.
9500 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester: Neil Shipley
When you need to harvest hay while the sun shines, you need a 9500 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester and Neal Shipley. No one does better with limited opportunities than Shipley.
He became the first player to win both the Masters and the U.S. Open low amateur since Viktor Hovlan in 2019. Hovlan, an Ohio State University graduate, made his professional PGA Tour debut last week with Rocket Mortgage, posting a T20 finish.
R4023 Sprayer: Jordan Spieth
Two-time John Deere Classic winner Jordan Spieth is known for spraying the ball, making him the perfect match for the R4023 sprayer.
Spieth won his first tournament on the tour in 2013, but he’ll need to get his splashy tendencies under control if he wants to win the John Deere Classic for the third time in five starts. He shot a 2-under 69 in the first round, but will need to keep his scores low if he has a shot at qualifying.
2230 Lift Level Tiller: JT Poston
One guy who can raise his level and win in the right field is 2021 John Deere Classic Champion JT Poston, and that ability makes his equipment a perfect match with the 2230 Lift Level Field Cultivator.
He’s poised for another big week in the Quad Cities. Driving accuracy, approach play and putting at crucial times are all very important skills at TPC Deere Run, so Poston should be able to use those areas to his advantage this week.
X739 Riding Mower: Joel Dahmen
Joel Dahmen looks like he owns an X739 riding mower or something similar. He has the air of a dad sipping a cold beer and maintaining a pristine lawn. What better tool to pair with his bucket hat and laid-back style?
The Netflix star is aiming to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs, and a strong showing at the John Deere Classic could get him closer to that goal.
