Nate Silver calls for Biden to resign after ‘incoherent’ comments in ABC interview

Nate Silver, founder and pollster of ABC’s FiveThirtyEight, called on Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing “incoherent rhetoric” during his first interview after Friday’s debate.

Friday morning, Silver Wrote a column More than a week after Biden’s poor performance in the debates, voters remain skeptical of his ability, and there is debate over whether models can properly assess Biden’s chances of winning the election.

Silver watched Biden’s interview with ABC host George Stephanopoulos before it aired Friday night. Post to social platform X Change the tune.

“This is a rather incoherent answer with no logical basis. [complaining] “Regarding the New York Times poll, he falsely claims Biden’s approval rating was down 10 points before the debate,” Silver wrote on X, sharing a clip from the interview, adding that the New York Times poll showed Biden was down just 3-4 points.

“I balked at my column today and removed a line saying we should have a plan for a transition of the presidency. [Vice President] “Harris should be there in the next 30 to 60 days, but I’m here right now,” Silver said. “Something’s obviously wrong.”

He joined a growing number of calls for the president to defend his legacy by stepping down in November and letting someone new take on former President Trump.

“The most generous way to put it is that he doesn’t appear to be in command, but that’s very hard to convince yourself of when you’re commander in chief,” Silver said.

The pollster shared a statistic that said 57% of people think Biden will withdraw. He said he thinks that number is low and that Democrats will apply “incredible pressure.”

Despite his underwhelming performance in the debate, Biden and his team have been adamant that he is in it to win, hosting rallies, speaking with Democratic governors and other lawmakers and meeting with Stephanopoulos to shore up support.

The ABC interview was seen as a make-or-break moment for Biden as he tries to salvage his campaign and win back the support of his base.

During the interview, Biden refused to take a cognitive test, a decision that Silver said was “in itself disqualifying.”

Less than a week ago, pollsters were predicting that Biden’s approval ratings would worsen further following the debate disaster.

Biden, the incumbent, disputed Stephanopoulos’ comments that his approval rating is below 36%. Silver said the polls are Biden’s least concern at this point.

“At this point, it’s only their fourth most important issue,” he said. I wrote this on Friday night “But the fact that the White House has indulged in poll denialism throughout the election doesn’t help matters,” he added.
