Target will soon stop accepting this form of payment

Cash or card?

Target will stop accepting personal checks as a form of payment in its stores starting later this month, the company confirmed.

The Minnesota-based big-box retail chain will stop making check payments starting this month because check payments have been “extremely low,” a spokesman said. He told NBC Chicago,

The spokesperson added that the company is taking “several steps” to notify customers in advance.

The change will take effect on July 15th, after Target’s popular Circle Week sales event ends.

Target said it will no longer accept personal checks, but will continue to accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, Target Circle Cards, digital wallets, SNAP/EBT cards and deferred payment services.

The Post has reached out to Target for comment.

The move comes after the retail giant made several changes to save costs as it has been plagued by thefts.

In March, Target imposed a 10-item purchase limit for customers using self-checkout stores.

Last week, Target instructed store associates to thieves to stop people from stealing merchandise that was marked down to $50 from $100.

Target’s Chief Financial Officer, Michael Fidelke, told investors last fall that he expected shoplifting to be a “significant financial headwind.”
