‘Disturbing’ That Biden Wasn’t Sure if He Watched Debate

In an interview with CNN on Friday, Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), who earlier in the evening called on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, said he had to consider whether President Joe Biden watched last week’s presidential debate and found it “disturbing” that he wasn’t sure if he did.

“Has he ever said anything that would convince you to change your mind and continue on with the campaign?” host Jim Sciutto asked.

Quigley responded:[M]My first reaction was, I’m not the one who needs convincing. It’s the American people who need convincing, and obviously they’re moving in opposite directions in the polls in key states and beyond. The two disturbing things about tonight is that when the President was asked if he watched the debate, he said he had to think about it, but he wasn’t sure if he did, he didn’t think so, and the other thing is that he felt that as long as he did his best, that was what really mattered. With all due respect, no, what really matters is to avoid a second term for Trump, for all the reasons that he stated. So it’s been a difficult week in the process for me, but I felt that it was necessary. Now… [for] “For lack of a better word, cheerleading. This is about real politics.”

He then added: “I think what will take courage is to step back and acknowledge that the president of the United States does not have the energy necessary to overcome this deficit.”
