“I think there’s a big change happening for us, which is for our coaching staff to have to develop young players,” Kahn said. “Our solution is not to sign a free agent every year. We don’t have that ability.”

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to develop young talent. You’ve got to change the coaching staff, the coaching staff, their priorities. You’ve got to change their mindset. That’s where the players of the future come from.”

“We can’t rely on free agents”

The Jaguars signed Trevor Lawrence to a big contract this offseason, when the two agreed to a five-year extension worth a reported maximum of $275 million, including $200 million guaranteed.

Kahn said he is “encouraged” that Lawrence will remain in charge for at least the next five years and that he has confidence in Doug Pederson as the team’s head coach.

Lawrence was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft and has 11,770 passing yards and 58 touchdown passes in 50 games.
