A Trump-Thomas ticket would be a game-changer for 2024

Donald Trump has yet to announce his running mate, a decision not taken lightly. There are many excellent Republican candidates, but there are only two that Trump should consider: Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Here is some unsolicited but respectful advice:

Justice Thomas has been a pillar of the American Republic for almost half a century. No one, except President Trump, has shown more political courage than Justice Thomas. Under normal circumstances, keeping Justice Thomas on the Supreme Court would be fine. But our Republic is broken, and we are in a revolutionary moment that requires outside-the-box thinking. This election will determine the future of this country. Why not give our all to two of our finest statesmen: Donald Trump and Clarence Thomas?

If the MAGA base and the American political right come together, we have a chance to turn this around.

Intellectually, Thomas demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to America’s founding principles. His application of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to the legal and political crises we currently face has had a profound and lasting impact on American jurisprudence. His understanding of natural law and common sense legal views have decisively reshaped the Court.

Politically, Thomas is in a unique position. He is an elder statesman respected by both the American public and Republican politicians. The MAGA base and traditional Republicans see Thomas as a bastion of traditional American morality and common sense.

Not only does he represent the best of American constitutional thought, he is a wonderful, good man, and has a kind, wonderful wife. Millions of people already love Trump, and the Trump-Thomas combination will generate unprecedented energy. Thomas is the kind of person who millions of Americans, especially Christians, will walk tirelessly through the electorate. The reason is simple: MAGA supporters want a running mate for President Trump who is a real MAGA, not a fake like Nikki Haley or Doug Burgum.

And at the most fundamental political level, who else could say that even if Democrats held a majority, they would never dream of standing in for Vice President Clarence Thomas to impeach President Trump?

Some may say that the Trump-Thomas pairing is odd because it would require Justice Thomas to give up his seat on the Supreme Court. This is true, but unless an overwhelming majority of Americans vote for President Trump in November and he overcomes his attempts at election fraud, Democrats will control the House and Senate, as well as the White House. They will then throw their weight around the Supreme Court, with Justice Thomas in the minority. If they win, who better to advise President Trump on the future of the Supreme Court than Vice President Thomas?

But, of course, Trump may not be able to keep Thomas off the court. In that case, the other option is to take a swipe at real electoral politics: Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. It’s well-known that Trump and Kemp don’t get along. They disagreed, to say the least, about how the 2020 election was conducted in Georgia.

Some may say that Kemp did not fully utilize his experience and abilities as a former Georgia Secretary of State to ensure a fraud-free election in the 2020 election, which was affected by election law changes due to COVID-19 lockdowns. This could be improved in 2024. Kemp is one of the most capable politicians in the United States. If he were a national candidate, he would ensure a free and fair election in Georgia. Under these circumstances, President Trump could win the state’s crucial 16 electoral votes. No other candidate has this possibility.

It is true that Kemp represents a more establishment part of the Republican Party. It is crucial to bring this faction back into the party and into the fold of President Trump’s MAGA base. Election season demands unity in politics, but that was not the case in 2020 and 2022. Party unity is essential in 2024 if President Trump is to return to the White House.

Many MAGA supporters would be appalled by such a selection. But this is a matter of political calculation. Georgia’s 16 electoral votes are crucial. Kemp has many pro-establishment tendencies and is not MAGA on some issues, but he is a traditional conservative on illegal immigration and gun rights. He was also one of the best governors in the country for keeping schools open and businesses open during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Whatever the Republican differences, the country is being torn apart, and it may already be too late to change course. What is certain is that the MAGA base and the American political right, united, have a chance to turn this around.
