Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat who represents the key battleground state of Nevada, on Monday called on her colleagues and fellow Democrats to support President Biden, despite growing calls within her party for him to abandon his reelection bid.
“Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination in a landslide victory because he is fighting for the working people of this country,” Cortez Masto said in a statement. Post to social platform X.
“He has always stood by Nevadans, whether it was on the picket line, protecting our personal freedoms or cutting costs, and now it’s our turn to have his support,” she said.
Mast’s statement is one of the strongest demonstrations of support for Biden from the Senate.
She joined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), who also declared their support for Biden to continue his campaign.
“I support Joe Biden,” Schumer told reporters in Syracuse last week.
The Democratic leader highlighted their shared accomplishments, declaring, “We’ve accomplished so much for America and Central New York.”
Fetterman criticized the “vultures” within the Democratic Party who oppose Biden.
“I refuse to join the Democratic vultures who stood on Biden’s shoulders after the debate. No one knows better than me that a tough debate is not the sum of a person’s character or achievements,” Fetterman said. Post to X This comes after Biden’s disastrous debate with former President Trump.
