Congressional Black Caucus chair backs Biden

Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (D-Nevada) on Monday joined the ranks of black leaders in supporting President Biden amid growing calls from Democratic lawmakers for him to end his reelection bid.

in statement Released MondayHorsford said Biden was chosen by millions of voters across the country, including in Nevada.

“Nevada voters are interested in a thriving and fair economy, taking on big business and cutting costs, and protecting our hard-won freedoms, rights and opportunities,” Horsford said. “They are focused on moving forward and reject the divisive politics of those who want to take us back.”

“They know that President Biden and Vice President Harris are fighting for them,” Horsford continued. “Like me, they don’t want Donald Trump back in the White House, and they’re prepared to work and vote to keep that from happening. We’re moving forward, not backward.”

Five current House Democrats have publicly called on Biden to stop campaigning after last month’s debate with former President Trump, and five more have privately suggested Biden should step aside.

Biden refused.

Meanwhile, black leaders, from former President Barack Obama to former CBC president Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), have reaffirmed their support for the Biden-Harris campaign in recent days — a big plus for Biden, as both he and Trump are hoping to win over black voters.

On Monday, the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus also voiced its support for Biden.

“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have exemplified their values by fighting for and winning policies that protect real working class people from exploitative pharmaceutical profits, massive student debt and the threats of climate change,” the caucus said.

The caucus added that Biden is the only person they can trust enough to “respect the democratic process.”

“We have two choices. A second term for President Trump would set us back a generation. A second term for President Biden would, I believe, continue to move us forward.”
