Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League moves forward with new portrayals of classic characters.
The game was released in May 2024 by Rocksteady Studios, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games, and was a massive $200 million flop. The studio later announced that its parent company’s overall revenue had fallen by 70%, dropping from a reported $607 million in Q1 2023 to just $184 million in Q1 2024.
But it seems the studio hasn’t taken any hints from viewers.
Shortly after the games crash, Warner Bros. Games launched a leadership program aimed at women and non-binary individuals in an effort to address the male dominance of the video game industry, according to a statement from the startup and tech community. Built-inThe Women and Non-Binary Leadership Program had the goal of overturning the supposedly male-dominated image of the games industry.
“They perceive femininity and the female anatomy as a threat to society.”
A few weeks later, the Suicide Squad game is well into season 2, but there are currently less than 500 people playing the game on the Steam platform. PC GamerThese concurrent games statistics are just awful for a project of this scale.
It looks like the new season is primed to introduce at least one new character, and it’s not Mr. Freeze, but Mr. Freeze’s wife, whose character name is Nora Freeze.
Mr. Freeze is depicted as a bald man with a scientist-like appearance. Played by Arnold Schwarzenegger First appeared in 1997’s Batman & Robin.
at the same time, Near-infinite depictions Mrs. Freeze classically beautiful Blonde womanIn the aforementioned 1997 film, the character was played by model Vendela Kircebom.
Apparently, the video game studio decided not to go with anything close to the usual portrayal of Mrs. Freeze. In the previous version, she was frozen by Mr. Freeze in order to find a cure for her illness. Now, she Depicted As someone who takes over her husband’s role.
One gamer went so far as to describe the new character as looking like a “non-binary Karen they/them.”
same accountThe user, who has more than 20,000 followers, suggested that the studio viewed her feminine features as a threat.
“I predicted this even before the game came out, and the backlash was intense. They see femininity and the female body as a threat to society.”
The depiction of the short hair is so far-fetched in fact that media outlets have theorized that it must be from an alternate timeline or universe.
The character art follows recent revelations by video game artists that it’s extremely difficult for studios to portray beautiful women in modern games.
“After 10 iterations, a concept or a model ends up being nothing like the beauty I first proposed,” said Del Walker, an artist who has worked on Star Wars and Batman games.
Walker added that not only have the characters’ faces been changed, but their looks, ages and attitudes have all been altered.
Gamers have pointed out numerous examples of diminished aesthetics, such as the character models in Star Wars Outlaws. Hanbury Gonzales.
The recent remake of the classic Perfect Dark video game was also criticized for its beloved hero’s stiff jawline. Joanna Dark.
This was apparently the case with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as well, with the studio seemingly unwilling to deviate from the standards of diversity, equity, and inclusion that they set for themselves during production by engaging diversity consulting firm Sweet Baby Inc.
The game has faced significant backlash and calls for a boycott since its release.
