Lego last week unveiled a new plastic brick set that pays homage to the 1975 blockbuster movie “Jaws,” featuring some of the main characters, a killer whale ship and the movie’s villain, a great white shark.
The roughly 1,500-piece set was released last Thursday, July 4. As part of the launch, LEGO partnered with Universal Products & Experiences to create the first-ever summer “Brickbuster” mini-movie, “JAWS…in a Jiffy.”
The film includes several scenes from the original film recreated using stop-motion, Lego blocks and characters, and lasts for approximately 90 seconds. I saw it here.
Scenes included include the opening shark attack scene from “Jaws,” the introduction of the character Sam Quint, the scene where the character Matt Hooper is dragged by the shark, and Chief Martin Brody’s first sighting of a great white shark and his memorable line, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

According to Lego, the original concept for the set was conceived by Lego fan Jonny Campbell through the Lego Ideas community platform.
“JAWS is my [favorite] “It’s the greatest movie of all time, so I was excited to recreate it with LEGO bricks,” Campbell said in a LEGO press release. “Lego building has always been a part of my life in some form, but to make sure I understood all the little details, I actually watched Jaws on freeze-frame, taking notes as I glimpsed the little details.”
The 1,497-piece set includes elements and characters from the film in minifigure form, including LEGO characters Brody, Hooper and Quinto, as well as Quinto’s boat, the Orca.

The Orca has an elaborate cabin with a removable roof, adjustable boom and rigging and comes with many distinctive accessories, including a revolver, compass, fishing rod, harpoon, spear and yellow barrel.
Lego says the set can be placed in a brick-built saltwater base with or without the Jaws Lego shark model attacking the killer whale’s boat.
It also includes a title printed with Brody’s famous line about needing a bigger boat.

“It’s amazing to have my design become an official LEGO set,” Campbell said. “I can’t wait to stand in a LEGO store, look at the shelves, see a set I helped create and see someone buy it. It’s every LEGO fan’s dream!”
The “JAWS” LEGO set will be available to LEGO Insiders from August 3, 2024, and to the general public from August 6, 2024, priced at $149.99.
