While other Democrats have called on the Commander in Chief to not seek reelection, far-left “Squad” Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts) have endorsed President Biden.
Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx, He told reporters On Monday, she said she supported the 81-year-old president after having an “extensive” discussion with him.
“He made it clear then and since then that he intended to run in this election,” she said. “This matter is resolved.”
“He reiterated that this morning,” she said, referring to a letter Biden sent to Democratic lawmakers. “He reiterated that to the nation: Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not withdrawing from the race. He remains in the race, and I support him.”
The progressive firebrand then attacked former President Donald Trump and his conviction, stressing that the White House needs to focus on helping workers.
Pressley also voiced her support for Biden on Capitol Hill on Monday.
“We’re losing our sense of direction,” she said. According to an Axios reporter. “Joe Biden is the candidate.”
“I think, with a few exceptions, everybody supports the president,” Omar said. According to Bloomberg.
In a letter to House Democrats on Monday, Biden insisted he remains “firmly committed” to staying in the presidential race in 2024, despite a handful of House Democrats calling for him to hand over the baton following his dismal debate performance.
Four senior House leaders reportedly told their colleagues on Sunday that they did not believe Trump could beat them in November’s presidential election and should withdraw from the race.
