A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is reportedly in the works.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter for the 2006 hit film, is reportedly working on the sequel project. Multiple Reports.
The original film’s producer Wendy Finerman will develop and produce the project, with original director David Frankel in talks to return. deadline I will report.
The return of any of the original cast members has yet to be confirmed, but reported plot summaries suggest that both Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt will return.
The outlet added that no casting contracts have been signed at this time.
Streep plays Miranda Priestly, a Wintour-esque editor at Runway magazine, while Anne Hathaway and Blunt play Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton, respectively, as her overworked assistants.
Details about the rumored sequel are still scarce at this time, but Fox 2000 Pictures, which financed the original film, is now owned by Disney following its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which was announced in 2017 and completed in 2019.
The Washington Post has contacted representatives for Streep, Blunt and Disney for comment.
The 2006 hit film was loosely based on the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, who chronicled her experiences as an assistant to longtime Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Streep earned her 14th Academy Award nomination for the film, playing a character that many believe was inspired by. The notoriously arrogant Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
The film’s witty, sharp humor has led to many famous quotes, giving it a cult following among millennials.
The 75-year-old “Mamma Mia!” actress admitted last year that she tried method acting which made her miserable during filming.
“That was awful! I [miserable] “I was in my trailer and I heard everyone shaking and laughing,” Streep said of her co-star. “She was so depressed! She was like, ‘Well, that’s the price you have to pay for being the boss!'”
“That was the last time I tried the method,” she added.
Blunt, 41, also recalled that Streep often felt isolated during filming.
“Meryl is a very outgoing person and a very fun person, so in some ways it was not very fun for her to have to step down,” Blunt previously said.
“She wasn’t unapproachable. If you went up to her and said, ‘Oh my goodness, something really funny just happened,’ she’d listen. But I don’t know if it was the most fun thing for her to be on set like that.”
Fans of the hit movie got a tidbit of information earlier this year when Streep appeared onstage at the SAG Awards alongside Hathaway, Blunt and others, 17 years after the film’s original release.
The famous trio came together to present the award at a ceremony on February 24th.
