Democrats critics of President Joe Biden are privately lamenting that the “dam has stopped” over calls for him to step down as the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.
“Very few members would openly support Biden leaving office,” a House Democrat said. Said Axios. “As someone who was hoping for a resolution and is disappointed that it’s over, trust me: It’s over.”
This week marked the first that lawmakers have returned to the floor since the debates that shook Democrats’ confidence in Biden’s ability to run for and win the White House in 2024. Biden performed poorly on the debate stage, struggling to complete sentences and thoughts.

Since then, Democrats have been panicked and divided over whether he is fit to represent the party in November. So far, a handful of Democrats have called for his resignation, and many more have openly questioned whether he is fit to run, but stopped short of calling for his resignation.
Amid what is expected to be a tough week with more Democrats appearing publicly, President Biden’s White House released a letter saying Biden isn’t going anywhere.
Progressives are now rushing to Biden’s rescue, with Squad members Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ran Omar (D-MN), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts) coming out in support of Biden.
So far, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has indicated his intention to support Biden.

But it will be those in battleground districts who will be hit the hardest.
House Democrats hold their weekly caucus meeting on Tuesday morning, with the focus expected to be on Biden.
