Nick Kyrgios is unhappy with his BBC colleague Andrew Castle.
The controversial tennis star slammed his fellow commentator’s comments about Monday’s Wimbledon fourth-round match between Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev.
Castle criticised the pair in a live chat with the BBC’s John Lloyd with the score at 4-4 in the second set.
Lloyd praised the fighting between Fritz and Zverev, calling the match “like a heavyweight match, it’s a matter of who closes their eye first.”
Castle immediately chided Kyrgios, saying: “Frankly, it wasn’t the most captivating tennis.”
Lloyd would counter: “No, but what they’re doing, it’s amazing they can do it on this surface at this speed.”
Kyrgios, who was off-air on Monday, appeared on X minutes later to slam Castle.
“‘Not glamorous’ was a comment made by a commentator commenting on the Zverev vs Fritz match,” Kyrgios wrote on the social media platform. “Just goes to show these guys have probably never played tennis at a high level. These are two of the most elite servers we have. Totally disrespectful. Get better.”
“The situation. Serve quality on tour is 7.8,” Kyrgios wrote in a follow-up post. “Zverev and Fritz are both 9+. Lol.”
Kyrgios, 29, has been covering Wimbledon for the network while dealing with a variety of injuries.
He missed the second half of 2022 with a knee injury and then missed the Australian Open in January with a wrist injury.
He attempted a comeback at Wimbledon last year but has yet to play since injuring his wrist just before the tournament.
In 2023, Kyrgios came very close to winning his first Grand Slam title, reaching the final at Wimbledon in 2022 but losing to Novak Djokovic.
