Aaron Rodgers seems to want a second bite of the (Davante Adams) apple.
The Raiders’ star receiver appeared on “Up & Adams” on Tuesday to discuss the offseason and share some tidbits about the former Green Bay quarterback who now leads the Jets’ offense.
“He’s in my ear, that’s for sure, he’s in my ear,” he told host Kay Adams when asked if Rodgers ever said they’d play together again.
“But it’s not that simple,” Adams continued. “Obviously, we can get together and talk about old times and talk about the possibility of doing this or that, but like I said, I’m a Raiders guy and he knows that.”
Adams, 31, has been at the center of trade rumors over the last year, but the Raiders have not seemed keen on trading the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, who is in the third year of his contract. Five-year, $140 million contract.
Still, Adams was full of praise for the Jets while speaking with FanDuel TV, saying that Rodgers and a strong defense make the Jets a Super Bowl contender.
“Any team with Aaron Rodgers, they have it all, especially with the defense, the players, the running backs, the receivers,” Adams added. “When you put a quarterback like him under center, any team is a Super Bowl contender.”
The three-time All-Pro said he was “frustrated” midway through last season when his performance dipped amid the Raiders’ struggles before then-head coach Josh McDaniels was fired.
“I’m a human being and I hold myself to extremely high standards in this offense,” Adams said after the sixth week in October.
“I’m sure people are thinking: ‘I won the game, why does it matter?’ I mean, you can see why it matters. People know who I am and what I do at this point. For a guy like me, mentally the bar is not about winning or losing, it’s about greatness. So when I go out there, I hope to have that on tape and the ability to impact the game.”
“That’s what I’m here for. I didn’t come here to just hang around. I came here to win, and win the right way.”
Adams has a salary cap of $22.35 million in 2024, making it difficult for him to be moved anytime soon.
