‘Crucial’ to ‘Continue to Support Him’

Political activist and unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is endorsing President Joe Biden amid growing calls for her to drop out of the presidential race.

In an editorial contributed to Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionAbrams wrote that it’s “critical” for Democrats to “continue to support” Biden and that voters should “ignore” the “doom and gloom loop” that is dominating the news cycle.

“Let’s be clear,” Abrams wrote, “the hopeful benefits of a contested convention or late losses far outweigh the potential damage. President Joe Biden has the integrity, morality, and track record necessary to defeat Donald Trump in November. Our path to victory lies in supporting Biden and understanding the high stakes of this election.”

“The anti-Biden doom loop is loud right now,” Abrams acknowledged, adding, “It’s mostly a phenomenon among people who obsessively follow the news or who like to create the news.”

In her op-ed, Abrams continued to denounce former President Donald Trump, claiming that he “revealed a plan to become a dictator from day one in office” and “openly called for the abolition of the Constitution.” The former Georgia congresswoman also emphasized that the Biden-Harris administration has “sown the seeds needed to restore American manufacturing jobs” and protect the climate.

Abrams added that there is still “much work to be done” to remind voters that Biden “saved the country from a possible reelection of President Trump.”

Those of us who believe in preserving the American Dream have a lot of work to do to remind voters that Biden is the man who saved our country from Trump. During our darkest hours, Biden worked every day to make our country stronger, safer and more prosperous. And he continues to do that hard work. But the consequences of his extraordinary record are not keenly felt by everyone.

“Joe Biden’s leadership over the past three and a half years has brought stability and progress, and it is vital that we continue to support him,” Abrams added. “Instead of ignoring the temptation of doom loops and indulging in pointless worry, we must do the important work of re-electing Biden as president. He is the best person to ensure a more just and equal future for the United States of America.”

Abrams’ op-ed comes amid growing pressure for Biden to drop out of the presidential race following his performance in the June 27 debate with Trump.

Donors and Democrats, including Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona), Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.), Rep. Pat Ryan (D-New York) and Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vermont), have called on Biden to “stand down” and withdraw from the presidential race.

Other Democrats, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), have also voiced their support for Biden, but Biden remains adamant that he will run.
