The media outlet said the text messages contained “photos and videos confirming that their relationship was sexual in nature.”
Zanzudzki told the court that Haveman-Niedlach had an “obsession with this child” and was a danger to herself and the local community. Zanzudzki asked that she be sent back to prison, but Superior Court Judge Vincent N. Falcetano released her and ordered her released to home detention.
Zanzucchi said the investigation began after Freehold Borough Police received a report in early June that the school’s vice principal was concerned about a suspicious relationship between a teacher and the girl.
The defendant was allegedly seen bringing food to the alleged victim each day and eating lunch with her in the classroom, and other faculty and staff members reported these concerns to the vice principal.
Another teacher also allegedly witnessed Haveman-Niedlach rubbing the boy’s back, neck and legs in a flirtatious manner, according to deputy prosecutors.
When police contacted the boy’s mother, she said she was worried because her daughter had expressed similar concerns and said she had seen her brother on his cell phone in Habemann-Niedlach’s car late into the night.
Zansudski also testified in court that the alleged victim had told friends she was dating a teacher.
When questioned by police, the boy denied having a relationship with Haveman-Niedlach and claimed he was in fact dating Haveman-Niedlach’s daughter, the assistant prosecutor said.
The boy then handed his phone over to police, who found thousands of messages.
A few days later, the mother contacted police and reported that her son had admitted to having a sexual relationship with the teacher. Asbury Park Press report.
Following this revelation, the boy was hospitalised for mental health concerns.
“The circumstances of the relationship became unbearable for him and ultimately led to him developing mental health issues,” the deputy prosecutor said.
“This is clearly a very serious and disturbing crime,” Judge Falsetano said at the detention hearing.
The judge placed Havemann-Niedlach on home detention but banned her from having any contact with minors, except for her two children, ages 5 and 12.
She is also restricted from using computers to prevent contact with minors.
Herveman-Niedlach’s attorney, William Wachowski, told Falcetano that her client plans to spend time with her elderly parents while awaiting trial, and that her parents and husband were in court on Friday to support her.
The disgraced former teacher is due to appear in court again on August 8.
