Former President Trump slammed actor George Clooney on Wednesday night, calling Democratic allies “traitors” for urging the president to end his reelection campaign.

Clooney published an op-ed in The New York Times the same day in which he expressed his belief that President Biden had “saved our democracy” by defeating President Trump in 2020, but acknowledged that Democrats “will not win in November under this president.”

Mr Trump responded to the commentary via his social media platform, Truth Social, on the evening of the same day, saying: “Fake movie actor George Clooney, who couldn’t have made a better movie, has now stepped up to the plate. Clooney has betrayed Crooked Joe like the despicable human beings they both are.”

“What does Clooney know? He’s using the Democrat ‘talking point’ that Biden, the worst president in American history, ‘saved our democracy,'” Trump said.

Clooney struck an apologetic tone in his op-ed, stating “I love Joe Biden” and saying he believes in his “character” and “morals,” but claimed to have witnessed his decline firsthand at a fundraiser last month.

“It shocks me to say this, but the Joe Biden I sat with at a fundraiser three weeks ago was not the ‘big’ Joe Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same person we all witnessed at the debates,” Clooney wrote.

This actor, Hollywood elite and megadonors Biden’s halting, weak and at times disorganized performance during the debate unsettled his supporters, who turned against him after the debate.

“Evil Joe Biden didn’t save our democracy, he subjugated it. Clooney should leave politics and return to TV. The movies have never worked for him!!!” Trump concluded.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy mocked Clooney for waiting until three weeks after the star-studded event that raised millions of dollars for Biden to acknowledge the president is in a “vegetative state.”

“George Clooney, what a hero this guy is? He came forward today. This guy held a fundraiser three weeks ago, raised tens of millions of dollars, and became Biden’s co-chairman. Today,, “He’s trying to act like he’s doing something heroic by saying, ‘Hey, that vegetable you saw at the debate, that’s a f****** Biden, a vegetable. He was a vegetable three weeks ago,'” Portnoy said in a video posted to X.

Besides Clooney, members of Biden’s own party, political allies and liberal media figures have also been pressuring the president to drop out of the race, warning him that he cannot beat former President Trump.

Despite growing pressure to step down, Biden told supporters and media this week he plans to continue campaigning and insists he remains the best candidate to beat his Republican rival.
