Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, called on President Biden to halt his 2024 reelection campaign shortly after the president concluded his highly anticipated news conference.
Biden spoke to reporters at a news conference following the conclusion of the NATO summit in Washington DC on Thursday evening.
Biden’s important solo press conference condemned by right-wingers as “another disaster”
At the news conference, Biden was peppered with questions from reporters about whether he was planning to resign amid growing pressure from within his party following his disastrous performance in last month’s debate.

Biden said he was “determined” to continue the campaign and argued he is the right person to serve as president now and for the next four years.
But Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) sounded the alarm immediately after the press conference.
“Joe Biden’s record of public service is unmatched,” Himes posted on X. “His accomplishments are immeasurable. His legacy as a great president is solid.”
“Donald Trump must not risk his legacy, his record, and American democracy to confront the horrors he promises,” Himes posted on X.

Himes added in a statement that it had been the “honor” of her career to work with Biden on “an accomplishment that will leave him with an incredible legacy in American history.”
“Given these characteristics and his accomplishments to date, I hope President Biden will recuse himself from the presidential race,” Himes said.

Himes is the 15th House Democrat to call on the president to resign.
However, Biden currently has the support of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
