French police: Four drowned in Channel
French maritime police said today that four people had drowned in the Channel overnight, AFP reported.
The people drowned off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer on the north coast of France while trying to reach England.
Navy patrol boats were alerted and rushed to the scene, and four people were rescued from the sea by helicopter, but died, the maritime police told AFP.
Police said the other passengers were rescued alive.
A total of 67 people were on board the boat, 63 of whom were rescued by four boats and a helicopter, Reuters reported, citing a spokesman for the French coast guard.
