My fellow Americans, show me a problem of a divided house, where We the People are failing and failing, and it’s not for lack of money, and I will show you equality properly understood and constitutionally pursued.
Understanding what equality means and what it does not mean, and figuring it out within the bounds of the Constitution, is the answer to most, but not all, of our nation’s challenges.
Equality, properly understood, is not incompatible with excellence and human flourishing. Misunderstood They are the mortal enemies of those things.
The men and women who lead the vanguard that I call “Brother’s Keepers” are creating an ideal of equality. by mistakegot it And it is being pursued unconstitutionally and illiberally. It is a concept that encompasses all of the passionate shortcomings of equality.
What should we expect to see coming? A divided United States, characterized by equality of rights and the corollary of slavery, barbarism, poverty and misery. This is not progress but regression.
This is not what rank-and-file Democrats, their liberal neighbors, conservative Democrats, and independents expect to vote for, but sadly, this is what they’re going to get until we wake up.
Fortunately, we have another avenue where equality can look its best.
It is a social state where equality and freedom are family, not enemies, and where equality for all means freedom for all.
A place where “we the people” are citizens and not subjects bound by “our brother’s keeper.”
A private and public life that pursues individual and collective happiness without coercion; a “shining city on a hill” that produces freedom, enlightenment, and prosperity, not tyranny, ignorance, and poverty.
Independents, Democrats, and Republicans, let us unite in support of this simple, self-evident idea that has been the source of American exceptionalism and defend our experiment in self-governance.
We need to get our American mojo back Getting Equality Right and Pursuing the Constitution Here’s how to do it, and it works for everyone.
But the problem is “getting it right.” Getting that part right is important. Sadly, it’s easier to get equality wrong than it is to get it right. Fortunately, getting equality right is easy. right It’s not as hard as it sounds, in fact it’s very easy.
It’s just that we lose sight of how simple it really is.
It begins with a renewed appreciation of the Declaration of Independence’s understanding of equality, a harsh judgment of what counts as “equality” in today’s marketplace, and one that is accepted as truth by our silence.
In effect, the Declaration was a press release announcing a “new order for the ages” on July 4, 1776. It took just over a decade for the first public offering, the U.S. Constitution, to be written, which offered the American people and the watching world “if we can preserve our Republic.”
The equality principle of our Declaration overturned the pre-modern exchange table, which valued and operated on the basis of humanity. inequalityOur declaration declared the old world obsolete and changed the course of human history, and we can be proud of that.
But that’s only part of the story. Equality carries with it an inherent right to liberty – the right to live a life of personal and political autonomy.
Equality is not a privilege, and natural liberty is inalienable. Equality and liberty cannot be legally given, sold or taken away.
Equality is the right of man to defend himself, not the right of his brothers. do not have Jefferson wrote, “No man is born by the grace of God with a saddle on his back, or boots and spurs on his back, ready to ride lawfully.” In fact, each of us is not born to be a master or a slave. Self-governing citizensThat is a self-evident, indisputable truth.
It is important to note here that equality and freedom are not in conflict with each other, but are in fact closely linked. It is not an either/or situation. bothGreater freedom is the product of greater equality. All men are created equal and all men are free.
Actual self-governance may be difficult, but these concepts are not, or need not be.
Equality, properly understood, is one Enabling and guiding the pursuit of truth multipleThis is how a truly diverse society survives and thrives.
Equality is not a privilege, and natural liberty is inalienable. Equality and liberty cannot be legally given, sold or taken away.
If you have been deprived of equality and freedom, you have been wronged. If you have willfully surrendered your birthright, you have wronged yourself. You have chosen to be less than what you were created to be.
Now, look at what the Declaration of Independence does. do not have Talk about equality.
I am not saying that everyone is equal in all circumstances and across the board..
To understand equality properly is to recognize and respect the obvious ways in which we are equal. do not have equal.
we do not have We’re the same height. Basketball isn’t for everyone. do not have We are all equal in appearance. Being a model is not something anyone can do. We do not have We are all equal when it comes to intelligence. Membership in MENSA is not for everyone. do not have There is equal strength and courage. Deadly, dangerous and dirty work is not for everyone.
Simply put, equality does not mean homogeneity.
So what does “created equal” actually mean? All human beings are born with the right to self-governance, both politically and personally. Equality is about extending political freedom and the right to the free pursuit of it to the whole of humanity. That’s it. And as it turns out, this is a pretty big, new-age ordering event.
In other words, equality, properly understood, is not incompatible with excellence and human flourishing.
equality Misunderstood,Equality unconstrained by constitutional restrictions is their arch enemy. Besides natural equality, there are also natural inequalities, some of which we have already mentioned. Not everyone can be Kobe Bryant, Steve Jobs, Eddie Van Halen, Bella Hadid, or… your role model.
This is the sense of national identity that Americans still want and desperately need — and the good news is that it’s within our reach to achieve it for ourselves.
“We the People” are entitled to a two-party system, policies, and civic education that will prepare us today to enjoy freedom, enlightenment, and prosperity. We need a system with independent checks and balances to keep us on a healthy course. A system in which our partisan differences are differences of degree, not kind.
Equality properly understood and pursued in accordance with the Constitution is the prescription for the woes of “we the people.”
