David Axelrod, a former adviser to former President Barack Obama, responded Thursday to President Joe Biden’s claim that “nobody” and “no polls” have said he can’t win in 2024.
“If what he said at the end of the press conference is true, it seems the Biden campaign didn’t have a very serious discussion with him about what the data shows. The age issue is a big, possibly insurmountable, concern that makes his chances of winning very slim,” Axelrod posted on X.

At the end of his press conference on Thursday, Biden insisted that “nobody” and “no poll is saying I can’t beat Trump.”
When asked by a reporter if he would reconsider continuing the campaign if his team showed data showing Harris doing better against Trump, he replied:
No, unless they came back and said, “There’s no way you’re going to win.” Me. Nobody said that. No poll says that.
The press conference, held at the end of this week’s NATO summit in Washington DC, was widely seen as a gauge for Democrats to gauge whether Trump could handle a live, unscripted event after his disastrous debate with President Donald Trump last month.

However, during the press conference, he confused the names of former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, calling Harris “Vice President Trump.”
That same day, he mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.”
