World number one Nelly Korda has suffered another disappointing performance at a major championship.
Korda won the Chevron Championship and five other LPGA events this season but has missed the cut in the last two majors. At the U.S. Women’s Open, she carded a 10 on the par-3 12th hole at Lancaster Country Club and missed her chance on the third hole of the championship. Her swing was off in the second round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee, where she shot a 9-over 81 and missed the cut again.
At the Amundi Evian Championship this week on France’s beautiful Lake Geneva, Korda started with a 2-under 69 to move within five strokes of the leader. But on Friday, the now two-time major champion again struggled to recapture his early-season form. He started poorly, bogeying the par-4 second hole to drop to 1-under for the tournament. He followed that up with another bogey on the tricky par-3 eighth, but Korda birdied the par-5 ninth to finish at 1-over 36.
She then recorded five straight pars in front of tournament officials. The game was cancelled that dayKorda is currently 1 under par after 14 holes, one stroke ahead of the cut line.
Ingrid Lindblad, Gemma Driver and Patty Tabtanakit held the lead at seven under after the first round, but were overtaken by Japan’s Ayaka Furue, who had a fantastic 2024 season.
Furue is at 12 under par with five holes to play in the second round. She is three strokes up in the lead and looking to win her first major championship. Furue has eight top-10 finishes this season, including a tie for sixth at Lancaster Country Club.
The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, six hours earlier than ET. While 66 players still need to complete their rounds, the top 65 players and those tied after the second round will advance to the weekend.
