Michael Douglas does complete 180 on Biden

Actor Michael Douglas, in response to a question about whether the president is fit for office, said “the tides are turning” and acknowledged there is some merit to the argument that Biden should be replaced.

Douglas appeared on “The View” to discuss why he thinks there is public anxiety and disillusionment with the current administration. The 79-year-old pointed to the economy, citing figures that economists say have led to the decline of the middle class.

Douglas said that since 1980, the stock market has risen “3,800 percent,” but the “living wage” has only increased “16 percent.”

“We lost the middle class,” he said, noting that middle-class people historically had a much more affordable cost of living. “Now you’re struggling.”

“I think President Trump has been very wise in quietly watching his own destruction.”

Host Joy Behar asked the “Wall Street” and “Fatal Attraction” star if he would support Biden, bringing up the fact that he hosted a fundraiser for the president at his home in April 2024.

“Do you agree with the calls for him to resign?” she asked. “Even Nancy Pelosi seems unsure about his resignation.”

“This is really difficult. I respect him. He’s a fantastic guy, served in public service for 50 years. And this happens to be one of those elections that’s really important and it’s really difficult,” Douglas said. Reply“I don’t necessarily worry about today or tomorrow, but I worry about what will happen a year from now. I worry.”

Douglas added that he realizes that politicians calling on Biden to back down are now “hedge their bets.”

A few months ago, the actor found himself in a similar situation to George Clooney, raising funds while praising the president’s intelligence, and now expressing concerns about the president’s cognitive abilities.

In late April 2024, Douglas said everyone he’d spoken to about Biden had said he was “very smart.”

“He’s fine,” he repeated. “Everyone gets memory problems as they get older, they forget names. … He’s overcome stuttering in his life, and he may overcome it from time to time.”

“Let’s just say that the entire Cabinet, including the vice president, would be happy to work with him for another term,” he asserted.

Asked directly about Clooney’s New York Times op-ed calling for Biden’s replacement, Douglas told “The View” he thought it was a “legitimate argument.”

“I’m deeply, deeply concerned. It’s particularly difficult because the Democratic Party has a large constituency. They have a lot of big names,” Douglas argued.

In another interview posted by X, New York Post“It’s very hard to say a bad thing about the president,” Douglas said.

“It’s been a great three and a half years as president, but I think the tide is turning.”

Finally, he praised President Trump’s ability to stand by and allow the Democratic National Committee to collapse.

“I think President Trump has been very wise in quietly watching his own destruction. [and the] The cannibalism continues. Democrats must act.”
