Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth among the popular players that will miss the cut at the Scottish Open

The Genesis Scottish Open has completed two rounds, with half of the field heading home early.

Some big names are not playing this weekend. Ludvig Oberg is in strong form and is one stroke behind Antoine Rosner going into the moving day. Lim Sung-jae and Matteo Manassero are at 10 under and six golfers are at 9 under.

While many people had success at the Renaissance Club, some struggled terribly.

The required score was three under par and anyone scoring higher was forced out. Who were some of the players who ended their week early? Let’s take a look at the popular players who missed the cut at the Scottish Open.

The most popular PGA Tour player to host the Scottish Open

— Luke Donald (68-70; -2)
— Hideki Matsuyama (71-67; -2)
— Jordan Spieth (71-68; -1)
— Rickie Fowler (73-71; +4)
— Justin Rose (69-72; +1)
— Padraig Harrington (70-71; +1)
— Will Zalatoris (71-71; +2)
— Denny McCarthy (73-74; +7)
— Keith Mitchell (69-70; -1)

Many of these players didn’t play horribly, but with the cut line being three under par, it just wasn’t good enough.

Both Spieth and Fowler are returning home early, which comes as a surprise as the former Texas Longhorn didn’t play badly last week but struggled in Scotland.

Mitchell looked to be in good form and missed the cut by just a few strokes. McCarthy had a strong week at John Deere but that momentum didn’t carry over to the Scottish Open where he struggled and only four players finished with the same score or worse.

Rose and Matsuyama are also shocking because they tend to perform well in this tournament.

Zalatoris himself couldn’t do much himself, and some might assume his back was still hurting, but that’s not confirmed.

With players over 10 under par, the field needs to keep up the pace. These players didn’t and ended up going home early. The next British Open is also in Scotland, so some players will start preparing early.
