Biden tries to reassure Michigan backers: ‘I promise you I am OK’

President Biden on Friday sought to reassure voters in the battleground state of Michigan that he intends to serve four more years in office amid questions about his age and physical fitness.

“We’ve got to get the job done, and I promise you, we’ll be OK,” Biden told supporters.

He and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) addressed a crowd at a restaurant in Northville, Michigan, ahead of a campaign rally in the area.

He repeated comments he made at a key news conference the night before, in which he said he was not running again on his own merits, but to finish the job he started four years ago.

“That’s why I’m running to get this done. There’s still work to do. I know I’m only 41. … I promise I’ll be OK,” he said, joking about his age.

The 81-year-old president added, “With age comes a little wiser…. There aren’t many other options.”

Biden is expected to blast former President Trump later on Friday over the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, calling it the “biggest attack” on the U.S. system of government.

President Trump is trying to distance himself from his conservative vision for the next administration, an effort that has involved many of his former staffers and advisers.

Biden visited Michigan, a key battleground state he won in 2020, as he defended his decision to remain in the 2024 presidential race amid growing calls from Democratic lawmakers for him to withdraw.
